January Book: The Kid by Dan Savage

First off, I just have to say, I adore Dan Savage. He is what I would consider the living, breathing epitome of what sex positivity is all about. He addresses every issue without judgement, while offering straightforward (ish) advice with a healthy dose of humor.

Every so often in his column, he offers glimpses into his personal life and relationships, but this book is the real deal. Dan offers his candid perspective on the adoption process, as well as addressing some of the realities surrounding gay parenting, reproductive struggles, and of course, getting ready for parenthood.

While parts of the book are a serious reality check with public opinion and political policy, the story is still heartwarming and full of laughs. Admittedly, I have a soft spot for non-fiction and biographies, and this one still left me with a ‘one for the good guys’ warm fuzzy. Plus it was a nice contrast to all the pregnancy reading I’ve done lately.

Officially, I recommend it when you’re in the mood for a feel-good adoption story with a slightly twisted perspective. Enjoy!
